Coat care for the Briard & Shih Tzu
IT is very important to take care of skin and coat of your dog.
So here is our rutine
Start early to make a quality time with your puppy, buy good brushes and combs and a good conditioner spray.
Often the puppy does not want to stay still while grooming, but this does not mean that the puppy can not be trained both breeds are very intelligent and will try to control.
We advise to teach them to be on a table(just make sure the surfice is not slippery) while doing this and also good to teach them to relax on the back while brushing and start before there will be any mats, make sure to have one hand on the pup at all times since they can be very quick to jump down and can injure them self.
Its good to play a bit before and after this prosess to make it more positive and give treats.
Never brush a dry or dirty coat it will damage it.
We like to use well diluted conditioner also for a brushing spray
Around 6-8 month they will start loosing the puppy coat and will start to mat very fast, this is the time most owners loose control of the coat and dogs go to groomer and get the 10 blade and go home naked, lets not be that owner, start at 13 weeks to go to the groomer and go every 4-6 weeks and every 2-4 weeks when they start with the puppy coat.

My favorite conditioners are Igroom Keratin conditioner and 1 all systems Botanical conditioner
We bathe our Briards every 3 weeks and Shih Tzu every 4-7 days, use deep clean shampoo every 4-6 weeks,.
We start our bath with 1 round of shampoo and extra for the beard and good to brush the shampoo in and then rinse out and do the same with second shampoo, then we put in a leave in conditioner and brush it in the coat and half rinse it out.
Blow dry the coat half dry and then dry while brushing, start with 1 foot and work our way up finishing all 4 feet and then go for the body, neck and head.
When dog is fully dry and mat free we cut the nails and shave the paws.
Put some rubber bands in the topknot and give them some treats
